Carter Lundy is a Vancouver-born Canadian racing driver. He currently races for Checkered Flag Racing out of Chilliwack, BC and is the current 2023 Tag Senior Champion and Rookie of the Year at the West Coast Kart Club. This August he will compete in France, driving an F4 Car, with a chance to compete in a full season of Formula 4 racing in France. This is his story, so far…

Carter Lundy began racing karts at the age of 4 at F-440 in Tsawwassen BC. Carter would continue to drive racing karts as a hobby throughout his childhood. When he turned 13 years old, the hobby turned into a passion. Racing for fun wasn’t enough anymore. He wanted to compete. He has been racing at Greg Moore Raceway in Chilliwack, BC with the West Coast Kart Club ever since, and still having lots of fun.

In his first couple seasons racing at the West Coast Kart Club, Carter was able to fight in the midfield and deliver decent results, typically driving inferior equipment. But he continued to hone his craft and by the end of his junior season had managed a few podium finishes, including a trip to the top step with a victory. 2023 was Carter’s rookie season in the Senior category, which is the best racers 16 years of age or older.

The faster karts definitely suited Carter’s driving style and he was immediately fighting at the front, turning a few heads along the way. He still had a lot to learn but driving in competitive equipment, against some of WCKC’s best racers was inspiring for Carter. He went on to finish on the podium 6 times last season, including 3 victories. It was enough for him to win the WCKC Tag Senior Championship in his first season, as well as Rookie of the Year. In 2024 Carter is off to a great start with a first, 2 second and a third place finish in his first five races of the year, with a mechanical issue keeping him from a fifth podium.

In June 2024 Carter competed in a run-off event at Kartplex at Area 27 in Oliver BC. The event was sponsored by Jacques Villeneuve. He was there in person for a meet and greet. The whole event was a great experience. Even more amazing, Carter would go on to win the event by putting in some of the best laps of his career when it counted most, ultimately knocking off the top rated driver by .045 of a second to win the scholarship to compete in France this August.

This scholarship covers the cost of the racing school and driving contest, which has a value of approximately $20,000.00. However, there are many other expenses that go with competition at this level, from equipment, to test days, travel expenses and more there is always another expense around the corner. Carter is headed to France with the will and intention to win the whole event, which will result in potentially moving to France for a season of racing, maybe more. The cost for this kind of an opportunity is pretty staggering. However, with the support of our local community businesses, friends, family and anyone else who wants to help this great Canadian Kid compete on the world stage, we believe anything is possible and we are determined to put in the work to make it a reality.
